FAQ

What teletherapy program do you use?
I use Doxy.me, a simple and secure telemedicine program in which you will click on my provided URL using Chrome or Safari web browser from your phone, laptop, or tablet.

When are your teletherapy office hours?

I meet with my Virginia and Florida clients remotely on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.

How much does each session cost?

Individual sessions (55 minutes) – $120

I also offer a free initial phone consultation during which we discuss the process of therapy tailored to your needs and your specific counseling goals.

What is your cancellation policy?
Late cancellations or missed appointments that are not a result of an emergency or illness will be billed in full per appointment, so be sure to cancel with 24 hours’ advanced notice.
Do you accept insurance?

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I can provide you a monthly superbill for you to seek partial reimbursement for out-of-network counseling. You are responsible for checking with your insurance to see if they offer reimbursement for non-participating providers.

The benefits of using self-pay counseling services are confidentiality, avoiding permanent diagnoses on your medical record, and placing you in the driver’s seat of your care.

I would argue that privacy is particularly important for clients who are first responders, helping professionals, federal employees, and contractors with an active security clearance.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept credit card payment via the Doxy.me teletherapy session (which uses Stripe).

What age ranges are your clients?

I work with young, middle-aged, and senior adults.

Do you only see clients who are struggling with grief, trauma, caregiving, relationship issues, and prenatal and postpartum depression and anxiety?
No. I also work with adult clients coping with codependency, boundary issues, shame, depression, anxiety, anger, mild alcohol and substance addiction, and process addictions (e.g., food, sex, porn, love, exercise).
What can I expect in my first session with you?

Our first individual or couples sessions will last for 75 or 90 minutes.

This gives us time to get to know one another, begin to develop an understanding of what’s going on, and look toward formulating a plan of action that will help address your needs and goals.

We will review the forms that I have sent you in advance and examine your previous history.

If necessary, I may provide you relevant generic and/or specific symptom assessments to have an objective read on your distress.

What is psychotherapy? How is it different from psychiatry?

Psychotherapy is “talk therapy.” You meet with a therapist and explore issues of concern; learn new skills to cope, manage, and reduce distressing symptoms; explore potential causes of distress; and build resilience and gain new insights.

Psychiatry is practiced by a licensed physician and typically involves an evaluation to determine whether medication is warranted in addressing the issue at hand. Psychiatrists rarely engage in counseling.

Referrals for a psychiatric evaluation (medication) are made when necessary. I typically refer when working with a client who has moderate to severe symptoms of suicidality, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, and prenatal and postpartum depression and/or anxiety.

Are you a Christian? Do you work with people who are not Christians?

Yes, I am a professing and practicing Catholic Christian who was originally born, raised, and practiced as a Greek Orthodox Christian until I converted in 2012.

As a Pastorally Trained Clinical Mental Health Counselor, I work with people of every faith tradition and those with no faith tradition at all.

I have specific Christian faith-based counseling resources for pre-married, married, and remarried couples, and resources for Christians coping with grief, depression, anxiety, shame, and perfectionism issues.

The Christian-faith counseling resources and approach that I use integrate evidence-based counseling practices (Gottman Couples Method and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) with Christian values and spiritual tools.

It is my purpose to help everyone who would benefit from my counseling skills and experience regardless of creed and where they are on their faith and spiritual journey.
